BUOYANCY CALCULATOR
Calculate buoyancy and upthrust for submerged objects
Upthrust = Volume × Water Density
Understanding Buoyancy
Buoyancy is the upward force exerted by a fluid on an immersed object. Archimedes' Principle states:
✓ Upthrust = Volume of displaced fluid × Density of fluid
✓ Net Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight of object
✓ Object floats when Net Buoyancy > 0
Metric System Calculator
Calculate buoyancy using metric units (tonnes, cubic meters, kg/L)
Seawater Buoyancy (Metric)
Upthrust = Volume (m³) × 1.03 kg/L × 1000
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Enter values and click calculate
Freshwater Buoyancy (Metric)
Upthrust = Volume (m³) × 1.0 kg/L × 1000
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Enter values and click calculate
Imperial System Calculator
Calculate buoyancy using imperial units (tons, cubic feet, lb/ft³)
Seawater Buoyancy (Imperial)
Upthrust = Volume (ft³) × 64.38 lb/ft³ ÷ 2240
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Enter values and click calculate
Freshwater Buoyancy (Imperial)
Upthrust = Volume (ft³) × 62.5 lb/ft³ ÷ 2240
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Buoyancy = Upthrust - Weight
Enter values and click calculate
